As summer officially begins, Missourians and visitors from around the world are heading to our state\u2019s abundant lakes, rivers and other bodies of water. Missouri\u2019s water resources aren\u2019t just enjoyable, they connect communities and support critical industries that power our state\u2019s future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the University of Missouri, we\u2019re proud to partner with state leaders, industry experts and world-class faculty to address the water challenges we face, while also supporting the workforce and economy of Missouri. New, groundbreaking Mizzou research highlights the depth of our impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022<\/strong> Johnny Morris Institute of Fisheries, Wetlands and Aquatic Systems<\/a>\u00a0Director\u00a0Dr.\u00a0Rick Relyea\u00a0and\u00a0colleagues\u00a0just\u00a0published\u00a0a\u00a0study exploring how\u00a0wood\u00a0frog populations\u00a0can\u00a0reveal the health of\u00a0freshwater areas, including in Missouri,\u00a0and\u00a0help\u00a0guide how we protect them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022<\/strong> The Mississippi River Basin Ag & Water Desk<\/a>\u00a0in the Missouri School of Journalism distributed 50 stories over the past year, reaching\u00a0nearly 400\u00a0outlets (including MSN and Yahoo! News)\u00a0covering the nation\u2019s largest watershed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022<\/strong> Missouri Water Center<\/a>\u00a0core research\u00a0faculty\u00a0Dr. Brandon\u00a0Sansom\u00a0recently received\u00a0U.S. Geological Survey\u00a0(USGS)\u00a0funding\u00a0for a\u00a0collaboration\u00a0with the Army Corps of Engineers,\u00a0USGS\u00a0and other partners to\u00a0control\u00a0invasive carp using\u00a0an inventive barrier of bubbles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our\u00a0water\u00a0research is also\u00a0supporting important national priorities.\u00a0Missouri Water Center\u00a0Co-Director\u00a0Dr.\u00a0Baolin Deng,\u00a0scientist\u00a0Dr. Pan Ni\u00a0and\u00a0other collaborators\u00a0have\u00a0secured\u00a0nearly $3 million from the U.S. Department of Energy<\/a><\/u>\u00a0to recover critical rare earth minerals from mining wastewater.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Across campus, our community is advancing Missouri\u2019s water resources for recreation, business and innovation \u2013 helping ensure our state remains a great place to live and work during the summer and throughout the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
