Next week, the Missouri State Fair begins in Sedalia, celebrating our state\u2019s strong communities and connections to agriculture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As\u00a0Missouri\u2019s\u00a0flagship, land-grant university,\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0proud to continue\u00a0our tradition of\u00a0kicking off\u00a0the fair with our annual\u00a0Mizzou Day<\/a>\u00a0on\u00a0August\u00a013. Celebrations\u00a0include an\u00a0opening ceremony featuring\u00a0state\u00a0leaders, including\u00a0Governor Mike Kehoe\u00a0and former Governor Mike Parson,\u00a0along with\u00a0special appearances from\u00a0Truman\u00a0and Mizzou students,\u00a0faculty\u00a0and staff.\u00a0We\u2019ll\u00a0also celebrate\u00a0a\u00a0historic\u00a0ribbon cutting for the\u00a0newly renovated\u00a04-H Building,\u00a0revitalizing\u00a0the more than 120-year-old\u00a0facility\u00a0to\u00a0serve our 4-H\u00a0members\u00a0for decades to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Missouri 4-H<\/a>\u00a0is\u00a0a program of MU Extension, and\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0planning a special announcement at the fair that\u00a0will create even more opportunities for 4-H members while\u00a0building\u00a0a\u00a0new pathway for students from rural Missouri to become Tigers.\u00a0We\u2019re\u00a0thrilled to share more details soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Missouri State Fair connects communities across the state and creates opportunities for young people to share their hard work and dedication to Missouri agriculture. A great example of the connections between the Missouri State Fair and Mizzou is Macy Reed, a senior agribusiness management major who has maintained deep ties to the fair throughout her life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Macy is from Green Ridge in Pettis County, just outside Sedalia. Growing up, she showed Hereford cattle at the fair through both 4-H and FFA. She received a scholarship from the Missouri State Fair Foundation\u2019s Youth in Agriculture Committee and went on to intern with the fair\u2019s Competitive Entry Department and the Sale of Champions. She transferred to Mizzou from State Fair Community College and currently serves as a junior member of the Missouri State Fair Foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At this year\u2019s fair, she\u2019s volunteering at the MooZOU Gallery for Kids and at the Missouri Cattlemen\u2019s Association\u2019s Missouri Beef House as part of her participation with Mizzou Collegiate Cattlewomen.\u202fMacy said it is important for her to stay involved in the fair because she wants to show her support for the agricultural community, maintain close relationships across Missouri and keep learning new things about our great state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
