Reading Day Safety

Students,

As we end the semester, I want to congratulate each of you on your many accomplishments this past year.  I’m very proud of you.

As you know, tomorrow is Reading Day, a time for study and reflection before entering the home stretch of final exams.  Over the past several years, Reading Day has led to sizable gatherings both on and off campus that have disrupted the university and local community.  Such gatherings have also created significant health and safety issues.  The safety of our community is of prime importance.

To ensure the safety of our community, the University Police Department and the Columbia Police Department will have an increased presence on campus and in the city to ensure public safety.  Individuals who violate university policy will be subject to the student conduct process; those who break the law will be subject to the appropriate legal proceedings.

Let’s celebrate responsibly and end the semester safely.  To those that graduate next week, congratulations on this important milestone and all the best for a productive future.
