Reading Day safety and campus events

Dear Mizzou Students,

As we celebrate the end of the academic year and your many achievements, we congratulate all of our Tigers on another successful year. A special congratulations to those who will graduate in two weeks. We know you’re ready to achieve success and make a difference in the world.

Next Friday, May 8, is Reading Day, and marks the end of classes and the transition to finals week. Reading Day is an opportunity to rest and prepare for final exams. In past years, Reading Day has led to sizable gatherings both on and off campus that have disrupted the university and local community. Some of these gatherings have also created significant health and safety issues.

As you celebrate your achievements, please do so safely and responsibly. The University Police Department and the Columbia Police Department will have an increased presence throughout campus and the community to ensure public safety. Please be reminded that individuals who violate university policy will be subject to the student conduct process, and those who break the law will be subject to the appropriate legal proceedings.

The university has a number of end-of-semester events and resources to consider as you celebrate responsibly.

On Wednesday, May 6, the Mizzou-A-Palooza concert featuring Jesse McCartney and Waka Flocka Flame will be held at 7 p.m. in Jesse Auditorium.

On Friday, May 8, if you need a break from studying, consider attending one of the Reading Day events below:

We encourage you to use Mizzou’s Roar Responsibly resources, including STRIPES and the Mizzou Safe app, and also review important safety tips from University Police.

We wish you a safe and restful Reading Day and a positive end to the semester.
