Civil discourse and the upcoming election

Dear Mizzou students, faculty and staff,

Voting is a hallmark of our democracy. As we approach Election Day, I wanted to take a moment to encourage all of you to exercise your right to vote.

I also want to reiterate our commitment to free expression and our shared responsibility to keep Mizzou a safe and respectful place for all. Our campus community comprises many different voices, backgrounds and perspectives. As outlined in our policies on free expression, we support the ability to assemble, peacefully protest and engage in civil discourse – but activities must not threaten or use force or violence or disrupt university activities or events. If individuals or groups do not uphold these standards of conduct, we will strictly enforce the university accountability policies as stated for students, faculty and staff.

We expect all members of our campus community to use their rights responsibly. By working together, we ensure each person can contribute to our important work and achieve excellence. Thank you for your ongoing support of one another and the Mizzou community.

Sincerely,

Mun Y. Choi, Ph.D.

President
