Dear Mizzou community,
Recently, I had the opportunity to meet with members of our statewide extension team who are part of the Missouri Extension Leadership Development program. We discussed leadership and what it means to make an impact on people and communities. It was a wonderful conversation that reaffirmed how much our faculty, staff, students and supporters enhance the well-being of our university, our state and the thousands we serve.
From education to business, agriculture to the arts, we continue to strengthen our global outreach each year. This commitment is built on Mizzou’s land-grant mission and core values. It also solidifies our role as an AAU, flagship institution conducting the highest level of education and scholarship to realize the greatest impact.
That’s an extraordinary responsibility, and one I see being fulfilled every day by our extraordinary community.

Winter break didn’t mean a break in student service
For one week during winter break, 475 Mizzou students gave up their free time to continue Mizzou’s tradition of community impact and service. Students participated in Mizzou Alternative Breaks trips across 16 states, Washington, D.C., and even the Dominican Republic, assisting animal shelters, providing healthcare, building houses, teaching English and more.
Precision medicine breakthrough opens the door to life-changing opportunity
A revolutionary precision medicine procedure developed by MU veterinary oncologists helps treat bone cancer in dogs. The “patient-specific” procedure uses a dog’s own tumor cells to develop a vaccine that targets the cancer cells while also avoiding the side effects of chemotherapy. With huge possibilities for human treatments in osteosarcoma and other cancers down the road, precision medicine is a game-changing approach that further underscores the immense value of MU’s planned Translational Precision Medicine Complex (TPMC).
MU’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program offers tax help to Missouri families
From now through April 15, Mizzou students and staff are available to assist Missouri families with the 2019 tax season — for free. With major tax changes impacting this season and more than 10,000 Missouri families taking advantage of this program last year, MU VITA sites are hoping to make filing easier for even more Missourians.
